Forward Facing, Further Determined

The end of September marks the beginning of our busiest season here at Ghost: a time when major medical conventions hover on the horizon and the exhibitors at those conventions seek the latest and most dazzling forms of visual media to attract attention and generate interest in the exhibits they adorn.  With so many projects simultaneously underway, and absent a full-time animator after the departure of Brian Thompson, our 3D team risked losing its cohesion and coordination.  To everyone’s relief and pride, such a disaster has thus far been averted due to the discipline and cooperation of the team, as well as the enthusiastic efforts of its newest leader, Bret Farley.

Though he remains the newest full-time animator in our studio, Bret’s talents and dedication to applying them have distinguished him on more than one occasion.  Our very first GhoPro post featured Bret being awarded for his aforementioned dedication.  Since then, his skill and comfort with medical animation has grown noticeably.  Bret’s open-minded eagerness and positive demeanor have endeared him to his colleagues and helped him to adapt to several geographic locales and artistic environments before joining Ghost.  Bret originally hails from California, where he completed his B.S. in Applied Computer Graphics.  He later received a diploma in classical animation from Vancouver Film School, and even worked for a stint in Maryland between stays here in Minnesota.  Throughout that time, he learned the illustration techniques needed to create traditional 2D animation and the software needed to create digital 3D animation, even teaching himself Maya while a student at California State University, Chico.  Much of Bret’s early industry experience involved broadcast animation, and the torturous production deadlines involved in that business have undoubtedly contributed to his stoic perseverance in situations where time turns treasonous.  For that reason and all those mentioned prior, Ghost could not have asked for a better colleague or leader of 3DC.
